GETTING TO KNOW NIC

in conversation

Introducing our girl of the moment - Nic. Nic is a Naarm (Melbourne) based model and dancer driven by unapologetic self expression who let’s go of judgement and surrenders to movement. When she dances, she goes to another place and brings us with her. We caught up with Nic to talk about her passion for dance.

What’s your name, age and star sign?

Nicole, but you can call me Nic. I'm 21 and I'm a Sagittarius.

What's your favourite thing about dancing?

With dancing, it's cool because it's a form of creative expression. I'm not bad at words, but I'm not the best with words, so it's cool to put that through my dancing and express it in another form.

Where did your passion for dancing start?

It's not really like a crazy story. My cousin was dancing when I was younger. I was four years old and I said, “Mum, I want to dance, too!”. So then she just put me into that class.

If you were still in school, how would you be busy spending your holidays?

Dancing! I feel like school limited me from dancing, so whenever I wasn't at school, I would try to dance.

I'd like to make sure everything I do is with pure intention. So whenever I create something and I post it, it's not for compliments. It's for an appreciation of the art. It's always with pure intention to share, not for the compliments of it.

What do you draw the most inspo from?

I think with all my dance projects and creative shoots, it's inspiration from me and my life experience. I like to creatively express myself through my projects. So definitely from my own experiences in life.

Who is your muse?

Tyler, the creator! 100%

What is the message you want to carry with your creativity?

I'd like to make sure everything I do is with pure intention. So whenever I create something and I post it, it's not for compliments. It's for an appreciation of the art. It's always with pure intention to share, not for the compliments of it.

What song is on rotation for you at the moment?

Adam Lives In Theory by Lauryn Hill. That's my jam right now!

Does your work aim to inspire the next generation?

Yes… to an extent. I feel like everyone should be their own artist but I think it can inspire people in the sense of, you're your own artist so no one has any limits on you. Produce what you want to produce, and if it resonates with you, it resonates with you.

What’s your advice for other dancers or anyone who is a creative?

Know yourself. Stay true to your vision. Don't let the instant gratification of quick content make you cave in. Just stay true to yourself and trust your vision. And it will work out. Everything will align for you.

Where can we follow your work and support you?

You can follow me on Instagram at @nicolessanders.
