Introducing dream girl and alchemist Trace Trinh. Proudly repping Melbourne’s west, Trace is a passionate dancer and co-creator of Ladies Hip Hop Jam, a hip-hop community that meets weekly to grow, support and foster unapologetic female energy. They are also a talented nail artist, initially starting because... nails... in this economy?! We sat down with Trace where she spoke about her passions in dancing, the importance of community and her inspirations.

What’s your name, and and star sign?

My name is Trace. I just turned 20 and I’m a Virgo!

What's your favourite thing about dancing?

There’s so much to it for me. I feel like I can express myself. Just have fun, but also build on something and heal with something.

Where did your passion for dancing start?

It started pretty young. Me and my friends in primary school used to just make up dances during lunchtime and we would perform it to our friends. I feel like that’s where it started.

What inspired you to be involved and a part of Ladies Hip-Hop Jam?

Me and my really great friend actually started Ladies Hip-Hop Jam about two years ago. It was really organic the way it happened. We were just at a jam session that happened to be all female which is really rare in the street dance community, so we were like ‘Oh this is so cool!’ and started doing it weekly. Now it’s a whole thing!

What does the importance of community mean to you?

Unity. I think it’s really beautiful that we can come together, share something that we all really love and have fun.

What song is on rotation at the moment?

Can I say two? The first one I really love is ‘Young Love’ by Cleo Sol. It’s nice. It’s chill. And then the other one is very basic but ‘Snooze’ by SZA but she just did a remix with Justin Bieber and it’s acoustic. I love that one!

How did you get into your hobby (@gelbytrace)?

I really like having my nails done and I honestly think at some point it got really expensive to keep getting it done. I also love having creative freedom so that’s what pushed me to learn how to do it myself. Now I feel like I can just do them whenever I want.

Who is your muse?

100% Lauryn Hill.

What’s your favourite piece from the Summer Collection that you featured in?

I love all the shorts! The shorts are so good! They’re just comfy and I like the length of them as well.
